FAQ
A scene can go wrong sometimes. An entire performance doesn't; with TIM actors, you're dealing with improvisers who have been on stage several times a week for more than twenty years and form a close-knit professional team. Moreover, when a scene is killed off story-wise, it still doesn't mean your audience stones will curl with vicarious shame. After all, the art is what improvisers do at the moment things go wrong. That too is golden and you are guaranteed to enjoy and learn a lot from that rebound finesse!
Generally not. You provide input, we do the improvising. That doesn't mean that we don't occasionally have an audience member join us, or that we put someone in the spotlight. Is that to embarrass people? NEVER.
Putting people on stage is not typical of improvisational theater. Maybe at some other companies, but not at TIM Theater. There is one formula in which people do play along because that is the essence of the concept, and that is forum theater, a form of work that we sometimes insert at "TIM Bespoke." There, too, the host takes good care of who takes the stage.
It is 100% improvisation. No gesture or and no line of dialogue in the scenes is predetermined. A scene (or sometimes an entire performance) is, however, preceded by what we call a "set-up." A particular insertion, question, sub-theme is explained by a play or scene supervisor and we indicate the framework or play concept within which we will improvise. This is also the moment where we enter into explicit dialogue with the audience and where we ask for e.g. suggestions and experiences. We work hard on these scene designs. We also coordinate well on this with you as the client and with each other. After all, we are looking for a logical structure in form and content. We make sure that everyone in the audience feels sufficiently addressed. We try to get to the heart of the matter. We guard against perpetuating taboos. We ensure a balance between solid content and enlightenment. In other words, we provide the best possible playing field in which to improvise freely and in which what needs and wants to be told can shine.
Thematic performances of TIM organized by our clients are sometimes open to the public. An overview of these can be found here.
Many of the players you see on stage at TIM also play together at Tout-Court. This company plays open improv shows in the theater, and is the primal group of Inspinazie! All info and playlist at www.inspinazietoutcourt.be
Hmmm. That depends on what you mean by that. We can make unpleasant messages, brought by yourself, more digestible. One way of doing this is by giving space and recognition to resistance and then together we explore the possibilities and see the positive aspects. We will never deliver a message in the place of a client or, in other words, put a hot potato in our basket. People obviously don't pick that and it wouldn't benefit anyone. Together with our clients, we do pay a lot of care and attention in the preliminary briefing to the overall program. Thus, we work to ensure a pure match between the improvisational theater pieces and the rest of the event's program (explanations, presentations, speeches, workshops). By the way, because of the interaction in our approach and not shying away from delicate matters, the audience also shows its most honest side. And that is worth gold to clients in terms of keeping their finger on the pulse!
Stop searching. They are not listed anywhere on the website. We know this would be easy, but because we work so custom, there are so many different prices that a price list would become a maze. We understand that price indication is often the most pressing question. So don't hesitate to call or email us and let us know roughly what you have in mind, who you are and who you want to organize something for. We can then give you a price (fork). Questions are free!
We know from experience that less than half an hour of total playing time doesn't work. And we certainly don't want to bring something half-understood or unfinished. After all, we always take the time to bring our audience into the improv concept. Also, in one way or another, we are always telling a story; it is theater, after all. And so we need a certain amount of time to create an arc. We play with 3-4 actors, sometimes accompanied by a musician. This is peculiar to the kind of improvisational forms we work with. So, no. And rules are there to be broken, so if you have an argument for doing this anyway, don't hesitate to contact us.
We used to. And experience has taught us (quickly) that that's a bad plan. You swim in water. To see through a wall you need a window. Improvisational theater you play on stage in front of a seated audience that can hear and see well. So we take great care with the technical conditions. Not to be difficult, but out of respect for us and your audience. Sometimes improvisational theater is also not the best choice within certain circumstances and you better use peripheral animation. For this you can contact Dramai From Marc.
