The performance: said he, said she
The continuing need for action to make women's equality with men a reality in our society is due in part to an ingrained inequality of feminine and masculine characteristics. With a dominance on the side of masculine characteristics in most contexts.
Exclusive thinking and action is fueled by stereotypes. Stereotypes come about when we generalize characteristics, but also when we suppress difference.
What if we:
- Better understand the workings of our brain and stereotyping
- don't confuse equivalence with "being the same"?
- be able to name and acknowledge the difference between masculinity and femininity with appropriate levity?
- also allow difference and diversity IN ourselves and see how femininity and masculinity is present in every m/f/x?
Will this take us to more inclusion and equality?
